Do You Know Shakespeare? by SimplyFun

Shakespeare_600I’ll be honest, it’s been a while since I’ve discussed Shakespeare but I enjoyed digging out facts and responding to fellow players who were more Shakespeare junkies and learned a lot along the way. This Shakespeare trivia game is loaded with rich vocabulary, facts and thinking as players wager their book pawns on one or more of the 6 answers to questions, ranging from general questions comparing his plays, “Which feature a fool, jester or clown?” to  queries specific to one of his works, “In Romeo and Juliet, which characters belong to the house of Capulet?” One of the Shakespeare Fun Facts is that the Oxford English Dictionary has credited him with introducing almost 3,000 words to the English language. Players can’t help but feel their word banks swell as they attempt to answer questions about lexicon,  searching for a”collection of nouns popularized by Shakespeare” such as “a geminy of baboons” or ” a cowardice of curs.” I had to look up those two! Naturally it is fun to follow a seemingly more knowledgable player, and see where he places his one pawn that will count for double the shillings. Players couldn’t help but discuss some of their logic as they placed their pawns or after the true-false answers were revealed. This game is an English teacher’s dream come true–challenging students (and adults) to think, compare, associate and know rich vocabulary related to one of the world’s greatest playwrights, AND you don’t have to be a Capulet to capture a lot of language and fun!
