Blast off into a new world of railway play with the BRIO World Space Station Set, where BRIO’s classic construction play gets an out-of-this-world twist! This 40-piece set invites young engineers to build an elevated planetary railway then send an astronaut and rover out to explore. With wooden track pieces, a space station, shuttle and monorail wagons, rover, astronaut, glow-in-the-dark alien, space suit, and accessories, there are plenty of pieces to inspire both construction and storytelling.
As we’ve seen with other BRIO sets, construction is just the beginning of the learning. Children experiment with how tracks fit together, determine where elevated sections should go, and problem-solve when their original plan doesn’t quite connect. Building and rebuilding strengthens visual-spatial reasoning, fine motor skills, planning, and flexible thinking. The open-ended design means that all of the pieces can connect with other BRIO World toys, allowing kids to continually redesign and expand their world.
Once construction is complete, the language learning really takes off! Kids can suit up their astronaut, travel across the planetary railway and perhaps encounter that mysterious alien along the way. Each action provides another opportunity to build vocabulary and create a more detailed narrative: Where is the astronaut going? What did she discover? How will she get the mineral back to the station? What happens when she meets the alien? As children establish characters and settings, encounter problems, and invent solutions, they practice sequencing events, cause-and-effect reasoning, descriptive language, dialogue, and the beginning-middle-end structure important to storytelling.
The BRIO World Space Station Set moves children from building their world to telling the story that happens within it. Construction encourages planning and problem-solving, while the space theme provides an exciting backdrop for pretend play, new vocabulary, and endless imaginative missions.
