The Contraptions Reactions inspiration guide worked as a great starting point for our builders. They collaborated together and chose a design to test. They organized needed materials, planned, and negotiated. They sought out other materials (boxes and books) to create varying height for their contraption. The activity resulted in a lot of “build and check,” as they tested out ramps, began to understand velocity and kinetic energy in its most primitive sense.
As a group, they were creative, artistic, and sometimes patient. They integrated construction and physics as they discovered chain reactions. They failed, they learned, and most importantly they had fun. When it was all over, they used the KEVA planks in all sorts of different ways for building, counting, and creating.
