What a tremendous scene with auxiliary themes around the story of a fire being put out. Trucks and ladder rescue, helicopter observation, news station reporting, an ambulance assisting the injured, police cordoning off the area, people watching from the shops and kids coming home from school. So much to talk about as kids complete the 208 piece puzzle and then try to find all the 51 objects pictured circling the scene that are in the story. Language skills are tapped as children search by category to be the first one to “observe” a picture. Where would we find a fire extingjuisher? “On a fire truck!” Who uses binoculars? “The guy in the helicopter.” Where is a backpack? ” Maybe someone is coming home from school.” And of course we knew right where to find the eclairs–at the bakery! Kids didn’t want to stop until they had found all the people, objects or animals that circled the puzzle. What a great way to combine fun and learning!
