imagesBooks about bears and hugs are popular, especially featured around Valentine’s Day but this one stands out with it’s engaging rhymes filled with playful text and rich vocabulary associated with each animal’s unique hug. Who knew you could describe a whale’s hug, a duck’s “waddle through the muck hug” , or caterpillar’s  “creepy crawly snug hug”? We can relate to a bear hug or snuggle with our dog but Cooney convinces us that it’s also delightful with perhaps less lovable animals like a pig or fish, with her endearing descriptions in rhyme–a “‘wet and drippy, slimy slippy” fish hug. This would be a wonderful bedtime story for some giggles before goodnight hugs and kisses as well as the centerpiece for a language lesson on descriptive words and poetry!
