Those of you who know me, know that I have been using Blue Orange Games for speech therapy for years. Kids still request Froggy Boogie or Pengaloo for a fun reinforcing game in therapy.

Recently Blue Orange Games has been making small games in a 3 inch tin for easy packing, and portable fun.  I have just awarded 5 of their new games with the PAL Award and wanted to share them with you:

Speedeebee is a stack of 50 circular cards with 3 brain teasers on each one. Players have to come up with a word in a category and then roll the letter dice to find out what letters and sounds have to be in the word. Kids retrieve words in categories like camping equipment, things in the forest, or something shorter than an inch. Now come up with your answer based on it starts with an “M” or it can’t have the letters “B” and “F” in it. It can be used to build vocabulary or as a carryover activity for articulation.

Flapz is the flat “cootie catcher made from Tyvek pictured above. Moms and kids remember making their own version of this to pass the time. There are many challenges from pretending to be the weatherperson and delivering the weather to describing a menu for a restaurant for witches and goblins. The language activities are interspersed with physical feats such as pantomime climbing a ladder or yawn until you make someone else yawn. It could certainly be used for a social language learning lesson.

Spot it! Junior Animals is a younger version of their Spot it! Games and is a great way to reinforce vocabulary with little ones.

Tell Tale Fairytales is for kids 5 years and up and has 60 double sized circular cards with fairy tale images on them. There are several themes represented such as pirates, princesses, fairies and leprechauns so children can build their story-telling skills, either in a group or individually.

Shrimp Cocktail is a quick game of recognizing categories and what makes this extra fun is that when you spot it, you get to squeeze the puffy starfish for a squeal of delight. By the way, he fits in the tin too!
