Scout and Violet are back and joining the other learning pups with LeapFrog’s newest Smarty Paws edition. They’re cute, cuddly and customizable. It makes the perfect gift to program your child’s name and favorite things.
Toddlers were immediately drawn to Scout’s soft, luxe fabric, which made hugs easy to give (especially since Scout asks for so many of them!). Smarty Paws features touch-sensitive paws which play music when you hold them. This made for a fun activity for older toddlers as we joined hands all together to make Scout sing.
My Pal Scout Smarty Paws invites interaction, as babies and toddler practice learning new words and following simple directions: “I love you. Will you give me a hug?” Each ear has a button that creates a fun experience. The Learning Ear reinforces animal sounds, engages your child in pretend play, and talks about some favorite things like colors and food, and even feelings.
Naming feelings is an important step to self-regulation. My Pal Scout Smarty Paws talks about those feelings like happy, sad, sleepy and scared. Scout compassionately asks for hugs when he’s having some hard feelings and uses other phrases that can be used as coping strategies: “It’s nice to take a deep breath.”
The Music Ear joyfully plays fun songs like “If You’re Happy and You Know it,” “The Itsy Bitsy Spider,” “Bingo,” other Scout original songs reinforcing daily routines, and instrumental music that’s great for moving and dancing. The Sleep Time mode soothes little ones to sleep with 5, 10, or 15 minutes of lullabies.
My Pal Scout Smarty Paws is a great cuddly friend that helps children learn early concepts, new words, and new sounds through repetition, songs, and interactive phrases. Toddlers loved the customizable feature, singing and dancing along, and practicing holding Scout’s magical touch-sensitive paws.
