Bigjigs Toys is known for its fun, sturdy wooden toys, like their 48 piece “Under the Sea Floor Puzzle,” made to be gripped by preschool hands with solid wood pieces to put together. We had so much fun looking for pieces to add to the “clownfish,” “seahorses,” and “Purple striped fish,” as we called out, “Where is the turtle’s head?” and “Find the diver’s flippers.” Puzzles are a wonderful parent-child or family activity as we work together to find just the right piece to complete the picture. This puzzle has a beautiful illustration of easy to describe and recognize sea creatures as well as a diver and treasure chest. Our little friend was naming the animals as she put the pieces together, “That’s a crab! A red crab.” Parents and children connect as they work a puzzle together, talking about and describing what to search for, “I need the shark’s face,” or “I see the diver’s mask.” What an inviting way to enjoy time together, while building language, fine motor and visual skills, rewarded by the completed sea scene!
