playonwords.com little boyThanks to OEDb, Online Education Database, for recognizing playonwords.com as one of the “20 Best Speech Therapy Blogs.” What a great idea to group helpful blogs for therapists and parents.

I enjoyed looking up other sites and found there to be quite a variety of content from some fo my favorites to new finds. “If Only I Had Superpowers” has been a long time favorite partly for the helpful therapy content but also for the clever presentation as the author shares just enough of her personal life–the challenges of having a husband with some special needs, her kid stories with enough detail but only cartoon representations, and a peek at her life philosophy which is full of service to others. “Autism Games” by Tahirih Bushey provides fresh games to use with kids on the autism spectrum. I have played so many rounds of “Monster Monster Please Come Out” which kids love. “PediaStaff Blog” recently asked me to be a guest blogger. They have depth and variety in the subjects that they tackle across many disciplines.

New to me ate some excellent entries such as “Geek SLP” which combines the needs of a speech therapist with the technology and apps to use in therapy. Complete reviews on best apps for therapy as well as tips on how to get them for a reduced price are helpful. “Speechandlanguage.com” is a compilation of blogs that are very specific to the needs of speech therapists dealing with testing, evidence based practices and ASHA information.

I appreciate the trend of everyone helping each other and providing a gathering place for us speech therapists to learn from each other. It can be lonely out there and we have always been generous as a profession in sharing ideas and techniques. Let’s keep it up!
