I had such fun reviewing and awarding two new games by Spin Master Ltd for the PAL Award. Kids couldn’t get enough of HEDBANZ, as they snapped their headbanz together and popped them on their heads, ready to be the featured player to guess who they were. From a banana, to a goat, sandwich or penguin, kids had to learn to ask questions from a general to more specific nature to beat the timer. Sometimes the easy ones are the hardest. I just couldn’t put together my clues to guess “fish”. My play partner gave me all the right answers, it was a pet, it doesn’t cost much, it doesn’t have legs–that one threw me. What pet doesn’t have legs? I had already guessed a bird. Use this game with kids who need to build their deductive reasoning and questioning skills.

Word Wave is a fast-paced word game with letter tiles shooting out of the wave machine, 4 at a time, allowing players the opportunity to form words. Fast thinking and fast spelling are required as you can expand your previous words or steal other people’s words to add letters for a longer word. We had such fun with this game that at the end, one of the players said, “I’m sweating!” It forces players to think in sound combinations to expand a “cat” to “catch” or “crate.” There is always conversation (or fighting) about new vocabulary!
