After my trip to a delightful family pumpkin farm, The Hall family farm in Charlotte NC, I was excited to find Pumpkin Jack by Will Hubbell that takes the reader through the steps of carving a pumpkin for Halloween, setting him outside as he starts to shrivel and rot, and completes the cycle as the rotten pumpkin lies under the snow and sprouts a new little vine in the spring, offering pumpkins all over again! This story lends itself to lots of description, experiments, and storytelling as kids can watch and document at least part of the life cycle of a pumpkin.

As I was searching for images of Pumpkin Jack I found this complete lesson plan by Homeschool Share with lots of ideas to use related to the book.
