Kids set up their pretend play, and distributed the felt flames so the fire engine could come to the rescue. “Shout fire” they said as they pushed the fire engine to the scene, with personalized siren noises. Unwinding the retractable hose, the fireman climbed the rotating ladder and “pshed” out the fire as the kids ordered, “Take out the fire!” After a job well done, the fireman got back into the driver’s seat and steered his vehicle back to the station. Kids added their details to the story with sound effects, questions and comments, building language through play with the Fire Engine.
